Below are some frequently asked questions about pregnancy and Chiropractic:
If am feeling great, why should I see a chiropractor?
How we feel is not a completely accurate indication of how our body is functioning. Only a small percentage of our nerves can detect touch, pressure, or pain. Chiropractic deals with how the entire nerve system functions. It is imperative for your health and your baby’s health to have the nerve system functioning optimally. During pregnancy, the mother’s body works twice as hard to provide for the new baby and her own body. A properly functioning nervous system decreases the stress on the mother’s body and allows her body to work more efficiently. This is the most important role chiropractic plays in pregnancy.
Is it safe for the baby? Does it hurt?
Yes, it is safe for the mom and the baby. We specialize in delivering specific, safe and gentle chiropractic care.
Can you help with headaches, nausea, sciatica or other symptoms during pregnancy?
Chiropractic adjustments are very effective at relieving the discomforts of pregnancy. During pregnancy, a mother experiences an amazing amount of change. There is increased weight, a change in the center of gravity, and the release of hormones, including relaxin, allowing ligaments to stretch enabling the birth process. These changes can cause or uncover underlining imbalance and improper functioning of the nervous system. These imbalances may be expressed through discomforts such as headaches, sciatica, nausea, low back pain, fatigue, etc. With Chiropractic adjustments the proper function is restored to the body and the discomforts are often resolved.
When should I start?
We recommend you start as early as possible.
Can Chiropractic help with a breeched baby (do you know the Webster Technique)?
A breeched baby does not mean an automatic c-section. I am trained in Webster intra-uterine constraint technique. This is a safe and gentle adjustment which removes constraint and usually allows the baby to turn to a head down position. Mothers often only learn of their baby’s breeched presentation between 36 and 38 weeks. I encourage you to learn and be aware of your baby’s position as early as possible and maintain proper posture to ensure optimal positioning of the baby for birth. When moms visit the office for Webster technique, they often notice that a lot of their other pregnancy discomforts disappear as well.
